One of the latest revisions of Windows is Windows 2010. Customers, however, have been asking if Microsoft Office 2010 is also compatible with Windows 10.
When Microsoft announced the launching of Windows 10, it has also modified the requirements for having Microsoft Office software on its Windows 10 version. Microsoft had disclosed that MS Office 2007 is not compatible with Windows 2010. Earlier versions like Office 95 can still work on it, though, but possible upgrades and revision of Windows 2010 may ruin the suite. The launching of Windows 10 also offers free upgrades for users of previous versions like Windows 7 and Window 8.1 who want to have the upgrade during the first year of its release.
In our case, our technical support usually encounters queries from customers asking whether Office 2010 can work well on Windows 10. This is due to the fact that there are issues that have been encountered lately by Office 2010 users especially those who have upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Some complain that they can no longer find Microsoft Office 2010 and cannot open documents that they have created and saved in them. Some have been pinned by users in the Start button but have lost them. Generally, customers wonder if they can still use Microsoft Office on Windows 10, e.g., Microsoft Outlook.
Other problems encountered by other users are some missing programs like Word when they installed Office 2010 with Windows 10.
Our answer to this question is clear — all Office products that you purchase from us are compatible with Windows 10. But they say there will always be an exception to every rule, so for Windows 10, it excludes Office Starter 2010.
Yes, definitely you can still continue using your Microsoft Outlook and other Office programs after getting an upgrade of Windows 2010. In fact, we have come up with a list of different Microsoft Office versions with their latest service packs that are indeed compatible with Windows 10. These are:
- Office 2016 (upcoming)
- 2013
- Office 365
- 2010, except for Starter 2010
- Office 2007
- Office 2003
In other words, if your computer has any of those mentioned, including Office 2010, you can still keep them in your PC while you upgrade to Windows 2010. This comes as a good news for millions of Windows users using lower versions like Office 2007 and 2010.
Note, however, that:
- You must always ensure that you have the newest version Office server packs and their upgrades.
- Early versions of Office, i.e., Office 2000, 2003, and XP, are not also well-matched with Windows 10. However, they might also work using the compatibility mode.
- Starter 2010 is not supported by Windows 2010; thus, you have to uninstall it before your Windows 2010 upgrade.
Office 2010 does go into the Windows 2010. For that matter, neither of the prior versions including Office 2016 and Office 365 is free. As a consolation, Microsoft came up with a new feature for tablets that are using Windows 10, i.e., touch optimization. This version is free but with limited functionality toward the fundamental editing functions in the tablet mode, as well as the other capabilities that you can find in desktop Office software.
Some users have tested the previous versions specifically 2000, 2003, and Windows XP. Out of the three, only Office 2000 resulted to some inaccuracies during installation. Thus, it cannot be registered into the system and advises the user to contact Microsoft support personnel. This is shown as “Error 1904” on the screen.
Except for Outlook, all apps in Office 2010 run well in Windows 10 such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Publisher. To ensure that you do not run compatibility issues, here’s what to do:
- Use the 64-bit memory in Windows 10.
- At some point, follow what Windows 10 directs you when installing Microsoft Office 2010 such as when it tells you to uninstall the application, as it is not compatible with Windows 10.
This is why as early as now Microsoft recommends that you should have an upgrade of these old versions although they are supported by Windows 10. Now, if you have Office 2003, 2007, or 2013 on Windows 7 or Window 8.1, these initial versions can be kept while you upgrade to Windows 10. At this point in time, it still remains uncertain if future Windows update can run the same or might destroy the suite. It should be reiterated that users have to ascertain that they have the latest service packs, security updates, and all other updates prior to having Office 2010 in Windows 10.
All things equal, it is best to run a newer Microsoft Office version on your Windows 10 PC. That way, you do not run the danger of breaking your suites to these newer versions. But, for now, you can still make use and enjoy Office 2010 in your Windows 10. Except for Office Starter, all applications in Office 10 are supported by Windows 10.
